Francis Richter and Martin Lompa met as young boys when they both attended the Deutsche Schule Kapstadt (German School of Cape Town). They went to separate high schools and their paths grew apart, but they remained friends.
In 2009 they started an online deli delivering the very best locally-produced non-perishable food products all over South Africa. Francis worked as salesman, driver, accountant – you name it! – while Martin provided funding for the business from his salary from his full-time job and worked after hours.
In 2011 the opportunity arose that would see their business evolve into what Diletto is today. They scrapped the online deli (which was too far ahead of its time) and created a niche non-perishable food distribution service with a very strong emphasis on customer support and satisfaction.
The company started in a basement in Oranjezicht, Cape Town, then moved to a tiny warehouse in Paarden Eiland and now spans two large warehouses in Montague Gardens. Having started with Francis as the only employee, Diletto now employs 20 full-time staff in Cape Town, four sales reps in Gauteng and has six agents working in Namibia. Diletto currently represents over 35 brands. Check them out here.
